ShopDiscover experience: 5% off @ Apple Store

Several credit card companies have cashback malls that let you earn cash back if you start your purchase through their portal.  I recently used the Discover Card's portal, ShopDiscover, to earn 5% back on a MacBook purchase at the Apple store.  I'm writing about it in the hope I can get $50 back through this blogging promotion, so feel free to ignore this post if you aren't interested in Discover credit cards.

I started with the ShopDiscover portal, and quickly found the Apple Store link, since the stores are nicely categorized.  ShopDiscover offers 5% back on Apple, much higher than other cashback malls that only offer 1% back.  After I clicked on the Apple Store link, it took me to the Apple Store's front page.  There was no pop-up or tracking number like Fatwallet, so it might be tougher to track down if the cashback isn't credited.  I then shopped on Apple.com for a few minutes and made my MacBook purchase.  Now I'm waiting the 8 weeks for the cashback to be credited to my account.

What I liked:

  • Easy to navigate

  • Seamless click through

  • 5% back is in addition to the regular Discover cash back

What I didn't like:

  • You have to use your Discover Card (the rewards on the card are only 0.25% unless you hit a $3000 threshhold, when you start earning 1% back)

  • No tracking system, so you need to have faith
