OfficeMax sells Amazon Kindle gift cards this week for 10% off ($5 back if you buy 2 x $25 cards as advertised in their weekly circular). These Kindle gift cards can be redeemed on your Amazon account and used toward any Amazon purchase. Combine this discount with a credit card that pays:
- 5% off office supply category, such as Chase Ink Bold
- 5% off OfficeMax, through American Express' OPEN savings network
- 5% off office supply AND 5% off OfficeMax for a total of 10% off through the American Express SimplyCash credit card
With the American Express SimplyCash card, you will get a total of 19% off Amazon purchases. With a regular Amex small business card, you will get 14.5% off Amazon purchases. When I bought some today, it didn't ring up with the discount, so I went to the front of the store with the store circular, which has the discount in the middle of the front page. Then the cashier scanned a bar code from a book and the discount applied, to unlimited quantities it seemed.
The other, more convoluted route to getting Amazon gift cards at a discount is to buy Best Buy gift cards at Kohl's, and then to buy Kindle gift cards using Best Buy gift cards. Kohl's offers discounts if you charge them to your store account I believe, and also Kohl's is coded as a department store, which is a frequently bonused 5% category for cash back credit cards. It's a lot of work, though, which makes this OfficeMax deal all the more attractive.
