Get $50 off hotel bookings

The global recession has meant great travel bargains.  More and more places are competing for your tourist dollar, so you get some very customer friendly policies, like Expedia's Best Price Guarantee.  Within 24 hours of booking a hotel at Expedia, you can call them and point them to any hotel website selling the room under the same terms for a lower price to the general public.  Expedia will then refund the price difference to your credit card and...


Give you a coupon for $50 off your next hotel booking!  This coupon is really worth more than $50, because it reduces your room rate and the taxes you pay on that room rate.  I find Expedia generally has the lowest rates to begin with, so you might need to use a site like Kayak (which searches multiple sites at once) to help you find sites that has lower prices.  I also discovered a blog dedicated to pointing out Expedia price differences, which does the homework for you.


And of course because Expedia has eliminated its own cancellation fees (it used to charge $35 or something like that), you could cancel the reservation that you price matched as long as you didn't book a rate that is labeled non-refundable on Expedia's website.
Travelocity has a similar best rate policy, but I've found that their "good buy" hotels often have cancellation fees.
