United Airlines and American Airlines are both offer double elite qualifying miles again after running a similar promotion last spring. For most people, elite status is good for the double miles on flights but not much else. But if you reach 100,000 miles flown, then you get free upgrades. Unless you try sell them on eBay. Then you're in trouble. Not that I know anyone who's tried to do this...ahem...
