(update: Sony Walkman available for $120 after new $50 off code WALKMAN50)

I am thinking it might be time to replace my iPod, which is about 6 years old. Vintage works for record players, but not for MP3 players. There are a number of good deals on the video/MP3 players:
- iPod (new):
- Newegg.com is selling iPods with a bundled
Kensington 4-in-1 charger. Check out the
4GB iPod nano for $134
(vs. $150 list) and the
8GB iPod nano for $174 (vs. $200 list). Sales tax in CA and $6 shipping. Good deal if you don't live in California and/or if you like the charger ($17 value). - Amazon sells iPod nanos for the same price (but no charger) after free shipping (4GB for $140 & 8GB for $180). Sales tax in WA and ND.
- Newegg.com is selling iPods with a bundled
- iPod (refurbished):
- Buy.com is selling a recertified 4GB iPod nano for $99. Shipping is free, but tax in CA.
- Apple.com is selling refurbished iPods at some very good prices and with some bonuses. Shipping is free, but tax in most states. Really good current deals are:
- iPod nanos for $20-30 off plus a free $15 iTunes gift card (4GB for $130 & 8GB for $170)
iPod shuffle (1GB) for $40 (latest generation)
- Sony Walkman
- Sonystyle.com is selling an 8GB video/MP3 player for $130 (vs. $200 regular price) using coupon code WALKMAN40 (expires April 10). Free shipping. Available in silver and black. This player (NWZ-A818) has excellent reviews on Amazon, but be aware that Sony recently introduced a newer model though at a considerably higher price.
- Sandisk (MP3 only): check out last week's post for the Sandisk 2GB player for $20 (a $2 price drop).
Disclosure: No commissions on Sony. Rob Deals will earn a commission on Apple, Buy.com, Amazon, and Newegg.

Hello,
I've never bought refurbished electronics before. What exactly does this mean and are there any downsides to buying refurbished? I'm interested in the refurbished iPod nano from Buy.com. Anything in particular I should be aware of before purchasing?
Thanks for any guidance!
Hi Kiersten,
Refurbished products are usually either customer returns or new products with minor cosmetic defects. Various retailers have different standards for refurbished goods. Apple tends to be one of the best, often selling new stock as refurbished stock. I haven't heard about the quality of re-certified stuff from Buy.com.
Robert
Hi Robert,
Thanks for the info. Why would Apple sell new stock as refurbished stock?
Thanks,
Kiersten
