Amazon tips & tricks

Amazon Subscribe & Save. For a number of consumable items, Amazon offers a 15% discount if you subscribe (i.e. initially commit to buying the item every 1, 2, 3, or 6 months).  The best part is that you can cancel the subscription at any time, so you can effectively get a 15% discount on any of these items all the time.  Shipping is free on all subscription items.  Some good deals include:

Amazon Prime. Amazon offers a program called Amazon Prime, which gives you free 2-day shipping for $79/year.  Also includes overnight shipping for just $3.99 per order.  The subscription is somewhat expensive, but you can justify the cost.  Okay, maybe not, but let me try:

  • One feature is that you can share the subscription with 3 other people you know (you can share with family or "unmarried partners"...Amazon might suspect you of adultery), so the cost is really $20/person (or just $20 for you, if you eBay the other Amazon Prime slots)

  • You can take advantage of deals like the transforming memory stick for $22 (expired deal) without having to pay shipping

  • Sometimes you really do need 2-day shipping (free) or overnight shipping ($3.99/item)
